Fang’s artworks are always minimal, which highlight the beauty of shape and form. They remain modest and yet elegant. The audience will find them very light in weight as he applies the “bodiless lacquer” technique in his creations. The method is done firstly by creating a rough core modelled traditionally in clay or wood and then layers of hemp cloth soaked in lacquer applied over the surface. Each layer is being left to dry before the next layer is to be added. The core will then be removed, forming a lightweight hollow body made of lacquer and hemp cloth.
