Lacquer Art Atelier: Japanese Gold Leaf Decoration 24.3.2019
Conducted by Japanese contemporary lacquer artist Shoko Taruma, this two-hour workshop will feature “Haku-e” technique. It is one of the methods of Japanese lacquer art that decoration is achieved by the application of gold or silver leaf to motifs painted in urushi (natural lacquer).
Guest instructor and artist: Shoko Taruma Language: Japanese/English supplemented with Cantonese Programme: 1/ Overview of Japanese decoration methods 2/ Introduction of tools and materials 3/ Demonstration of “Haku-e” techniques 4/ Design of patterns 5/ Urushi and gold leaf applications Each participant will gain hands-on experience with urushi and gold leaf applications on a pair of chopsticks and a piece of chopsticks rest.
