Ichizo INO

伊能顔画像.jpg

Born in 1970 Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan, Ichizo Ino

伊能一三 completed his graduate degree in lacquer art from the Tokyo University of the Arts, Japan in 2000. He completed his apprenticeship training at the Kanazawa Utatsuyama Kogei Kobo in 2005. His works have frequently appeared in both solo and group exhibitions in Japan and in the United Kingdom. They have been acquired by notable collections including Design Center, Ishikawa Japan, Musterring International, Germany, and the Yokohama Cat Museum, Japan.

For his series Vehicles of Peace, Ino creates whimsical sculptures of fawns, children, dogs and cats often arranged in compositions to represent family. Reflecting the word ‘peace’ in the title, the pieces have a flowing sculptural style exuding a feeling of serenity. The sculptures themselves are in a simple colour palette.

Ino perceives the shapes of all beings as vehicles, each form guiding us to better places. He treasures lacquer for its dual nature: a flexible bond that is sensitive to the whims of temperature and humidity. To him, this material is essential in crafting his “vehicles for peace,” where animals become symbols of hope, embodying dreams of harmony and kindness.
